The technical certificate which you will study in College combines workshop-based training with the related theory. The practical work includes removal, dismantling, rebuilding and replacing many vehicle components. You will build your understanding of more complex operating systems such as charging systems (electrics) and fuel injection. The theory lessons are important in developing your knowledge and understanding of the technical areas of your work. To achieve the VCQ in the workplace, you will show your practical skills by carrying out related tasks. Your on-site assessor will visit you to assess your progress. If you do not already have GSCE English, maths and IT at grade C or above you will have to take Functional Skills qualifications which are a requirement of all apprenticeships.
