GCE Design and Technology: Product Design offers two pathways, Resistant Materials Technology and Graphic Products, each with its own specific content. The specification seeks to develop students' knowledge and understanding of, and skills and application in, designing products. They will also develop their research, analysis, product development, project planning and evaluation skills. Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of equipment throughout the Design and Technology department. This includes CAD and CAM equipment such as specialist software and laser cutters. The course is assessed through two coursework units (Unit 1: Portfolio of Creative Skills, 30 per cent of A-Level, Unit 4: Commercial Design, 30 per cent of A-Level), and two exam units (Unit 2: Design and Technology in Practice, 20 per cent of A-level, Unit 3: Designing for the Future, is 20 per cent of A-Level). The course leads to a range of degree level courses, such as Engineering, Architecture and Product Design.
