Communication and Culture is a course that asks you to examine the world around you and how you interact with it (and how it interacts with you). A range of cultural practices and products are studied, as are elements of communication (verbal and non-verbal), identity and society. In the AS year two modules are studied: Comm1 - Understanding Communication & Culture and Comm2 - The Individual and Contemporary Culture. These modules include the following topics: the nature of culture, the meanings and practices of everyday life, high culture and popular culture, value, identity and self-presentation and reading images and products. In A2 two further modules are studied: Comm3 - Communicating Culture and Comm4 -Communication and Culture in Practice. These units build on the knowledge learned in AS and introduce various theoretical concepts including: Liberal Market Theory, Marxism, Feminism, and Postmodernism
