Law is the study of the rules which govern our society, the institutions which make them and the manner in which they are applied. The AQA AS exam specification covers the institutions of law making - Parliament and the courts - and the machinery of the civil and criminal court systems. Students will also study fundamental concepts of liability in both criminal law and tort. At A2, the specification deals with specific areas of criminal law in more depth. Students will examine the laws governing fatal and non-fatal offences against the person, property offences, and potential defences available to defendants. Students will also have the opportunity to explore broader social and ethical issues, for example the relationship between law and morality.
