Health Social Care and Early years is a long established course at Long Road. The course provides excellent preparation for both further study and employment. Our teachers have wide vocational experience within the sector working in hospitals and the wider community. The team have many years experience in supporting students to set up their work experience in relevant work placements in a variety of health social care and early years settings. This two year course leads to a vocational qualification which will prepare you for further study for example nursing degree courses. It is also an excellent grounding for a wide range of careers in health social care and early years for example becoming a teaching assistant or a social care worker. Work experience is an integral and important part of the course along with extensive coursework. Work experience You must be prepared to work in a wide variety of Health Social Care and Early Years settings. There are coursework assignments and activities which need to be completed in a care setting. These will form part of your portfolio. Special features We have a full and varied extra-curricular programme which includes opportunities such as becoming an ambassador for Jimmy?s Shelter and voluntary work in a range of areas. We work with a local drop-in centre for older adults developing activities to support their needs. We also have a number of trips throughout the year including to Budapest Hungary to observe the work of the Peto Institute. We have access to a range of outside speakers including health and social care professionals and representatives from voluntary organisations. This is the 180-credit course. You will enjoy and benefit from this course if you are sure that you would like to: pursue a career in Health Social Care or Early Years after college; acquire the knowledge skills and confidence to work with people in a care setting dealing with people who may face a range of challenges.
