The AS Chemistry course will initially build on the knowledge gained at GCSE level and key ideas including moles and redox will be covered. Further topics including bonding and structure, periodicity and organic chemistry will subsequently be covered. The second year of the course will cover AS Level topics in further depth and lead to the full A-level qualification being awarded.
Name: AS Chemistry Qualification title: GCE AS Level in Chemistry A Qualification type: GCSE or equivalent Assessment The AS Chemistry qualification is assessed by two written papers at the end of the year. Both papers are one and a half hours in duration and have a weighting of 50%. Practical skills will be assessed in the written papers. The A-level Chemistry qualification is assessed by three written papers at the end of the second year of the course. Two papers are two hours and fifteen minutes in duration and each has a weighting of 37%. The third written exam is one and a half hours in duration and has a weighting of 26%. All three written papers assess knowledge over all the six modules. Practical skills will also be assessed via the completion of practical exercises which will be reported separately from the A-level grade.
