This workshop is a voyage of discovery into glass fusing and very much about hands on experimentation/creation. You will have an opportunity to experiment with different coloured glasses/glass accessories such as confetti, frits, rods and stringers. Beginners will spend the first 40 minutes learning how to cut glass accurately and be given a brief introduction to the theory of glass fusing. Improvers, currently working on a stained glass panel may use this workshop as an opportunity to integrate fused glass in their work so bring along your ideas or drawing/cartoon. These will be developed during the first 40 minutes. You will produce at least one piece of fused glass. It is a good idea to do some research beforehand and arrive with potential projects/ideas to develop in addition to those that will be suggested by your tutor. You will be producing small glass pieces (e.g. hanging decorations, coasters or pieces to integrate in a stained glass panel) and/or some small jewellery items such as pendants, brooches, etc with a wide variety of glass colours and glass accessories. The fused pieces will be ready for collection from the centre about 7 to 10 days after the course. NB We can only glass fuse, there will be no glass slumping.

Wear old clothes/apron and sensible shoes (avoid wearing open shoes as glass splinters could be a problem). Bring a notepad, a pen, a pencil, a rubber and most importantly a fine waterproof marker pen. If you have never cut glass before bring about 1 sq. ft. of clear glass which needs to be 3 mm thick to practice on (shape is irrelevant). Old window glass or greenhouse glass (3mm thick, not thicker) are generally suitable. Make sure it is not toughened/safety glass as these will be impossible to cut!Do a little research beforehand and arrive in the classroom with potential projects/ideas to develop. All tools and materials (within a reasonable limit) are included for exclusive use in the classroom apart from the initial piece of glass to practice on.
