Dressmaking/Pattern Making (NCFE Level 1)

Here we are doing a simpler version of pattern drafting. You will learn how to take your body measurements, make your own pattern and then construct the garment from scratch. You will use a variety of different fabrics including stretch fabrics to create unique garments. In this course you will also learn: how to use a sewing machine; read patterns; finishing garments (buttonholes); take body measurements; simple alterations and mending; to use an overlocker.

Entry requirements

The learner is responsible for any material costs if the course is a practical subject, but all tutors keep the costs of materials as low as possible - between £2.00 - £4.00 a session. Tutors can advise you where to buy low cost materials, or some tutors will provide materials to leaners each week for a small charge. Your tutor will speak to you about materials needed at the first session.
