Students study two units for AS Level: Unit 1 - An Introduction to Physical Education including Anatomy and Physiology; Acquiring Movement Skills; Socio-Cultural Studies relating to participation in physical activity (worth 60% of AS) and assessed by exam. Unit 2 - Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in Physical Education (worth 40% of AS) assessed by practical application and EPIP oral. Students can go onto A2 Physical Education in their second year. On completion, the qualification provides a suitable foundation for specialist study in both Physical Education and Sports Studies in Higher Education and are also suitable qualifications for other areas of study. It also provides an excellent foundation for candidates intending to pursue careers in teaching and coaching, sports development, the leisure industry, recreational management, health, leisure and fitness and professional sport.
