Geography is a diverse, engaging and hugely relevant subject which equips students with essential skills required not just during years 12 and 13 but into university and the workplace! It is not a coincidence that Geography graduates are amongst the most employable non vocational graduates. Over the course of years 12 and 13 you will study the natural and human environment, the ways in which humans interact with the physical world, through topics such as Contemporary Conflicts, Desert Environments and through completing fieldwork. In the Geography department we use a range of teaching styles, including, debate and discussion, thinking skills, interpreting data and maps, extended writing, and audio visual presentation. You will be assessed at the end of year 12 by two examinations and at the end of year 13 by two examinations. There is no coursework or controlled assessment as part of this course. Geography combines well with many other subjects both in the Arts and the Sciences, it is highly valued by universities and employers and is a ‘facilitating subject’ as identified by the Russell Group of universities.
