Plasterers work on both new build and existing domestic and commercial properties. The work includes dry lining, floating and skimming walls and ceilings, applying renders to external walls and possibly some decorative work such as ceiling roses and cornices. You will learn a range of plastering skills while on your Apprenticeship which could cover: Rendering - sand and cement plastering applied to external walls either to protect the building from penetrative damp or for cosmetic purposes. Floating and skimming usually done on plasterboard, artex or old and damaged plaster to give a smooth finish; Dry Lining - putting up walls or partitions, which are normally mounted to timber or metal studs and the joints will need to be taped and filled prior to decorating.
