Pottery - Beginners and Improvers

This course is equally beneficial for the beginner as well as those with experience. It introduces a broad range of ceramic techniques including the main clay construction methods - pinching, coiling, slabbing and throwing on the wheel. There is a strong emphasis on personal skill development, including the designing and glazing of work. Students will work on individual projects with professional advice and guidance from the tutor., , Please note the Pottery is located behind the Sarah Thorne complex off Fordoun Road, Broadstairs., , Outcomes will be dependant on individual projects, 1. Use throwing and hand-building skills both in functional and non-functional work., 2.Understand the decorative and finishing aspects of glazes., 3.Work with clay and glaze confidently and creatively., 4.Design, make and evaluate ceramics using personal ideas., 5.Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, Beginners and those with experience. It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
