Course shortcode: ELE05 AS Level Electronics can lead to jobs in the engineering sector through higher apprenticeships or technology and science-based degrees. During the one-year course you will apply basic electronic principles and a systems approach in order to lift the lid on many modern electronic systems encountered in everyday life. The study reflects up-to-date practice; encouraging a safe approach to using electronic systems. The topics you will cover include amplifiers, used in many areas of electronics, from basic amplifier systems to computers; logic gates, including AND, NAND and XOR; and transistors and MOS-FETs, which are the power behind many modern domestic systems. Counter circuits will also be covered, alongside timing circuits, which can be used for synchronisation, to time different operations and allow different systems to communicate. The knowledge and skills acquired through the study of AS Level Electronics will form a sound base not only for taking the subject further, but also for employment in the scientific and technological professions.C in Science required
