English Literature is an AQA course which is split into 2 papers and a non-exam assessment. Paper 1 explores Love through the Ages in which 3 texts are studied: one poetry and one prose text, of which one must be written pre-1900, and one Shakespearean play, which will include two unseen poems. It is a 3h written exam and is 40% of the A-level. Paper 2 has the choice of two options: WW1 and its aftermath or modern time literatures from 1945 to present day. The exam lasts 2h30 and accounts for 40% of the A-level. Students will study 3 texts: one prose, one poetry and one drama, of which one must be written post-2000. The exam includes an unseen extract. The non-exam assessment is a comparative critical study of two texts, of which one must have been written pre-1900. It is worth 20% of the A-level.
