"This course is aimed at people who want to gain skills for the workplace or improve their home user skills whilst gaining a recognised qualification. The course is assessed by externally set assignments and requires the learner to be able to follow written instructions and create/edit documents with a high level of accuracy. In order to achieve a Certificate candidates are required to complete a Mandatory Unit worth 3 credits, they then need to achieve a further 10 credits from a range of optional units. Credits can also be used from some other qualifications including the Pre CLAIT. Some of the units available include: Word Processing, create, edit and format a range of documents, using tables Spreadsheets, use functions and formulae, edit and format data, create graphs and charts Presentations, create format and present data Database, enter and amend data, use queries and reports to retrieve data Desktop Publishing, organise and combine information from different sources, use graphics Using the Internet, searching and security/safety Using email, compose, send and manage emails"

Entry requirements

Learners are required to attend sessions on a regular basis to enable them to achieve the accreditation and will find it beneficial if they are using at least some of the packages outside of the classroom. It will be necessary to practice skills between classes. The software being used in centres is MS Windows 7 and MS Office 2010, this may be different at external venues. For learners who do not have access to IT at home computers and support are available at libraries. Books are available for classroom use but need to be purchased if required for home use.
