This course is aimed at learners who have a strong interest in graphic design. Learners will discover the many ways of seeing the world around them and from there create new and exciting approaches to design outcomes. By developing strong technical and creative skills and applying these to a wide range of specialist fields learners will produce their own unique portfolio of work including magazine layout, motion graphics and 3D design. The course will reflect a firm commitment to help learners begin a rewarding career in graphic design. Contents include: Ideas in art and design Layout design 3D modelling Experimental imagery Product design Digital production and manipulation Typefaces and letter forms Throughout the two years, learners will also study art and design techniques, produce a professional portfolio, design their own website to display their design work and complete a second year project of their choosing to exhibit in a gallery. During the time on the course learners will have the opportunity to undertake work experience with a professional design studio, work with media organisations including newspapers and local radio stations and gain experience of using a professional studio producing advertising imagery for a website. Learners will also have the chance to attend a range of inspirational talks given by individuals working within the media industry. Educational trips will be arranged including visits to a wide range of exhibitions.
