This qualification is at A-Level standard and provides students with a broad understanding of vocationally-related sciences to support progress to higher education or employment. Studying this qualification will enable students to develop their knowledge and understanding of scientific principles, as well as those scientific practical skills recognised by higher education institutions and employers to be most important. The qualification also offers students an opportunity to develop transferable skills such as problem solving, research and communication as part of their applied learning. WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR? People who: ? Are interested in learning about science that has a real life context (vocational study rather than purely academic). ? Prefer qualifications that contain a coursework component rather than solely examinations. ? Enjoy carrying out research and finding information from a variety of sources. ? Name: Applied Science Qualification title: Extended Certificate in Applied Science Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment There are 6 mandatory units, which are equally weighted (16.7%). Three of the units are coursework based and internally assessed. The remaining three are assessed at the end of the course through an external examination, including questions on pre-release material. The units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.
