Biology

UPDATED 20161031 13:39:44

Biology is a popular subject covering a wide range of plant and animal science, with more traditional knowledge acquisition running smoothly alongside the development of experimental techniques, data analysis skills and application of biological principles to everyday contexts. The work of biologists past and present is evaluated in the light of new evidence and opportunities for you as the biologists of the future are acknowledged. It is a varied course, which frequently links to the GCSE content of a number of subjects and complements a range of other AS and A Level options. You need to be confident with your knowledge, understanding and investigative skills gained from your Key Stage 4 course, whether that is a GCSE in double science or biology, or the Edexcel Certificate. An ability and willingness to manipulate numbers is also essential to meet the mathematical demands of the course. You should also be happy to work independently on research with the bespoke electronic resources, as part of a pair or small group on practical tasks and to participate in whole class discussions. The capacity to learn the language of biology and use it fluently in written and verbal work is also important
