Religious Studies: Philospohy and Ethics

Those who follow an A/S course in Philosophy & Ethics work in industry, government, and education. They become lawyers, doctors, administrators, teachers, diplomats, journalists, consultants, stockbrokers, bankers, and managers. They are accepted and respected in all professional schools, especially law and medicine, and welcomed into management training programs. Additionally anyone who is reading for any other humanities based A Level subjects and wishes to improve their skills of analysis and evaluation might find this course particularly useful. Knowledge and understanding of: ? The key concepts of Philosophy & Ethics ? The contribution of significant people, movements and traditions including how people decide right from wrong when they donït believe in God, why religious people disagree about which actions are good. In Philosophy we look at two arguments for the existence of God and two ideas which call into question the nature and existence of God. ? Philosophical and ethical language and terminology ? Practical ethical issues from medical ethics including genetic engineering, euthanasia and savior siblings. Students will develop the following skills ? Identify, investigate and analyse questions arising from the study of Philosophy & Ethics ? Interpret and evaluate concepts, issues, ideas , the relevance of arguments and the views of scholars ? Communicate using reasoned arguments substantiated by evidence.
