This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn how to create individual fabric pieces for a variety of uses ranging from fashion and soft furnishings to embroidery and textile art etc. , During the course you will be shown how to create your own designs before using a wide range of fabrics, mediums and techniques to produce surface decoration and embellishment. Techniques will include dyeing, marbling, stencilling, block printing, batik, image transfer, stitch and manipulation in addition to beading and other forms of applied decoration., The course provides a structured learning process leading to a City and Guilds level 1 qualification. Through a combination of group discussion and instruction, demonstrations, practical tasks and individual support during the class you will be encouraged to complete a portfolio of decorated samples for assessment. You will be expected to research a variety of design sources to inspire their samples and to explore the work of professional practitioners as inspiration for creative expression. A degree of commitment and homework is expected as design work and samples need to be documented and presented appropriately., , This course will run for 8 Saturdays through the second half the the academic year these include: 25.02.17, 11.03.17, 25.03.17, 22.04.17, 13.05.17, 10.06.17 This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in working in fabric and wishes to develop fabric decoration it to its full potential, you can be a complete beginner or have some experience., , All our Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak with someone at one of the centres before you enrol.

These will be discussed in class and will be decided by your interpretation of the brief but will include the following: , Basic art materials such as a sketch book, , Folders for presentation of samples as well as a range of pens and pencils,, Sewing kit,, Fabric for samples, , and small amounts of specialist materials such as water soluble fabric. , As with all our course please do not buy anything until you are sure the course is running. The tutor will advise on all purchases and products at the first session but please bring a pencil and notebook as well as a basic sewing kit to the first session and your sewing machine of you have one.
