Studying Economics (AQA) will give you an understanding of the UK economy and the role of government economic policy within this, as well as the development of the study skills required for higher education. Economics is also highly regarded by many employers. Through the activities carried out in class and outside, students will also gain literacy, numeracy, presentational and team working skills. Economics combines well with most other subjects but in particular with History, Geography, Sociology and Mathematics. Who is the course for? - Students who wish to undertake further education courses in Economics and other related studies such as accountancy. - Students who want to enter the workplace post-18 and who need some knowledge of the economy and the role of government. A-LEVEL COURSE SUMMARY There are three assessments for this: Paper 1. Markets and market failure which is 33.3% of the A Level. This is examined by a data response question and an essay question This unit includes; Economic methodology and the economic problem, individual decision making, price determination in a competitive market, production costs and revenue, perfect competition, imperfectly competitive markets and monopoly, the labour market, the distribution of income and wealth, poverty and inequality and the market mechanism, market failure and government intervention in markets. Paper 2. National and international economy which is 33.3% of the A Level. This is examined by a data response question and an essay question This unit includes; The measurement of macroeconomic performance, how the economy works, economic performance, financial markets and monetary policy, fiscal policies and supply side policies and the international economy. Paper 3. Economic principles and issues which is 33.3% of the A Level Examined by multiple choice and case study
