If you have enjoyed GCSE Music, then A-level is definitely for you. There will be lots of opportunities for practical performance and composition, as well as developing your understanding of how harmony works and how to discuss elements of music in listening work. There will be a range of set works, ranging from classical to jazz to contemporary to different styles from around the world. You need to be ready to play your instrument or to sing, but you don't necessarily need instrumental grades, just a commitment to making quality music and presenting this in performances.

If you have completed GCSE Music, this structure will be familiar to you. At AS level, however, you will have a chance to delve deeper into Music. Read on to find out more. Performing A performance lasting five to six minutes for any instrument in any style. Standard required is roughly grade 5 (but don't worry if you haven't taken any instrumental grades) and you will receive additional marks for anything equivalent to grade 6 standard or above. Composing You compose a piece for instruments or voices in any style, based on a set brief. You also write a CD sleeve note about your music. Developing Musical Understanding You will study music from Renaissance to pop! You will also develop an understanding of chords and lines and how music fits together.
