The aim of this course is to provide you with a method to understand what the media is saying about the world to be able to make your own mind up about the way events are represented across all the media platforms. You will develop critical understanding of the media through engagement with media products and concepts and through developing your own views and interpretations. As well as discussion, debate and written reports, 50per cent of the course work is hands-on. You will explore production processes, technologies and other relevant contexts. The practical side of coursework involves developing a response to a set brief. Examples of previous coursework involve making a trailer to promote a film and creating a website to advertise a teen magazine. Media Studies complements other A Levels such as English Language & Literature, Film Studies, History, Politics, Business Studies, Sociology and Psychology as well as Art & Design. The skills that are acquired through studying this subject will prove invaluable in jobs that involve communication. Assessment consists of coursework 50per cent and exam 50per cent
