Drama and Theatre Studies aims to develop your passion for the subject as participants and informed members of an audience. You will work individually and as part of a team to create exciting and challenging pieces which may be as a performer, director or designer. In the first year of study the focus is on performance. In Unit 1 you will study four play texts from the point of view of an actor or designer. Two of these will be explored in practical workshops and in written notes and be internally assessed as coursework. In Unit 2 a further two will make up practical performances and be examined by an external assessor. In the second year of the course you will explore texts and other stimuli from the point of view of a deviser and director. In Unit 3 you will work as part of a group to create an original piece of drama. You will be assessed on the process of creation in the work you do in class, through a supporting written evidence document and on the final performance. For Unit 4 you will study a prescribed play text and a play from a chosen historical period.
