This qualification is designed to engage and motivate students who are interested in learning about the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry. You will develop your knowledge and skills in: -health and safety practices and good housekeeping -tools, equipment and materials -spark ignition engine systems, components and operation -compression ignition engine systems, components and operation -steering and suspension systems components and maintenance (4 wheels or more) -vehicle braking systems components and maintenance -vehicle wheels and tyres construction and maintenance -vehicle exhaust systems components and maintenance -vehicle electrical foundation skills All students studying on this programme will have a period in a local garage workshop and the colleges own MOT station to gain valuable work experience to prepare them for employment. Programme tutors will arrange visits to industry based events, such as the Motorsport Show.The programme comprises practical tasks and technology in the form of underpinning knowledge. You will be assessed through a combination of: -workshop based competence tasks and questioning -written assessments -external online testing -Functional Skills assessments in Maths and English -E-portfolio of evidence to show your competence and understanding of the qualification and skills The study programme is 16 hours per week for 36 weeks and students will be expected to complete an additional two hours minimum of self-study each week.
