Pottery – Workshop All Abilities How will this course help me? You will develop the skills to work with clay to produce a variety of individually designed pieces of work in a friendly and informal environment. Who is the course for? Learners of all abilities from beginners to the more experienced who wish to learn or develop pottery skills. What can I expect to Learn? An understanding of the whole pottery making process, including:- Basic techniques which may include pinching; slabbing; moulding and modelling Throwing a pot on a wheel (more advanced learners) Decorating and glazing techniques Health & Safety in the workshop How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. You tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? An apron overall or wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Note book and pencil. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) You will need to pay for clay and firing costs. The current cost is £1 per pound of weight of finished pots. E.g. a mug may cost £1.50 What can I do next? A variety of Get Creative courses are available. Discuss your next steps with your tutor or the Centre staff.
