Computers for Home Use How will this course help me? This course will help you to develop practical skills and build confidence in the use of ICT which can be adapted for use on the home computer. Who is the course for? This course is suitable for those learners who have used a computer before and can use a mouse, save and print work at a beginners’ level. What can I expect to learn? The course will include a variety of practical topics that you may want to use your home computer for: Card Making Calendars and posters using different typing styles and effects and using pictures Type personal and business letters; contacts’ lists for reference and printing address labels Adding shortcuts to the Desktop Learn how to save If time allows within the course, you will then go on to have a look at using the Internet and develop skills on searching for information on topics of your choice, such as holidays, theatre bookings, accessing train timetables, playing word and drawing games, quizzes etc. All activities will help you to develop fundamental skills and knowledge to use a computer more confidently. How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. What will I need to provide? Bring along a pen and notepad – should you wish to make any notes. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. All of the costs of this course are covered in the advertised course fee.
