In this course you will learn the basic techniques of hand and machine embroidery, including free machine embroidery, using water soluble fabrics, learn how to needle felt by hand and machine, applique and experiment with fabric manipulation, using a variety of threads and yarns. We will explore and experiment creatively through stitch, colour and texture.

A selection of basic materials will be available to you in class but you will need to provide additional materials for your personal project work. These include a basic sewing kit, fabric scraps, machine embroidery threads, yarns and other materials which the Tutor will discuss in the first class. Overall costs involved will be dependent on the size and complexity of your samples and projects. Specialist tools are provided for your use, and advice will be given on where to purchase materials and equipment.
