Term 1- Traditional Calligraphy (Italic hand) This course will introduce students to the traditional forms of Italic script. The course will cover basics of script analysis (Italic hand), exploration of different inks, pens and papers. Term 2 - Traditional Calligraphy (Beautiful Italic) This course will introduce students to the various changes of the structure of Italic script, as well as to variations that can be made to the script to produce a wide range of effects. You will also learn to correct spelling mistakes neatly Term 3 - Traditional Calligraphy (Italic variations) Building on an understanding of the structure of the Italic script this course will introduce students to the various changes, or variations that can be made to the script to produce a wide range of effects.Term 1 - Traditional Calligraphy (Italic hand) Beginning with analysis of 14th Century scribes Bembo this workshop will focus on understanding the origins of the script and its purpose. Students will analyse the structure of the script, its key characteristics and how it was written. We will also study skeleton letterforms. There will be exploration of different inks, pens and papers, as well as advice on how to choose the best materials for your own work. Students will be encouraged to understand the connection between Italic letterforms and their own handwriting. At the end of this workshop you will produce a finished example of italic script in form of alphabet or a small panel. Term 2 - Traditional Calligraphy (Beautiful Italic) This course will start with an introduction to formal Italic writing before moving on to making changes, focusing on weight, form, direction, colour, structure and texture. We will be using different tools, but will also explore line weight, letters and line spacing, rotation, setting a rhythm, concentric compositions and depth & density. The emphasis will be on creating the maximum amount of differences between the variations yet retaining
