Patchwork & Quilting for Beginners and Improvers

Intermediate students may pursue their own personal project work, exploring traditional and contemporary techniques and methods in patchwork, quilting and applique. Work with traditional and experimental techniques for hand and machine stitching and embellishment. Learn to develop basic design and colour theory, safe use of tools and equipment and quilt construction techniques. Beginners follow a course of English and American patchwork, quilting and applique techniques to make a small sampler quilt.

Entry requirements

•A basic sewing kit - scissors, needles, threads, bobbins, stitch ripper. •If you wish to work on your own projects, please bring materials for it - these may be recycled or new. •Notebook, pencil and eraser •You may also wish to obtain a folder for storing handouts. Beginners should bring - •100% cotton fabrics, needles, pins, scissors, matching or neutral coloured threads. Fabrics should be dressweight or specialist patchwork fabrics. You will need approximately 1.5 to 2 metres of assorted fabrics for the top of a quilt and 1.5 metres for backing fabric. Fabrics can be recycled or new. You will also need to bring wadding, but this will be discussed in class.
