A-level English Language and Literature allows you to develop your knowledge of English on a combined course. It focuses on literary and linguistic analysis helping you to become an independent reader of fiction and non-fiction prose poetry and drama texts. This course will develop your critical and creative writing skills through the study of a range of pre-1900 and post-1900 poetry prose and drama texts including Shakespeare and an anthology in a variety of genres both fictional and non-fictional. Various film and theatre trips provide a broader context for the cultural social and historical influences on the production and reception of literary texts as well as inviting writers and academics as guest lecturers. These courses combine well with psychology sociology history and modern foreign languages.
