This course is the second year of an 18 unit (180 credits) studied over two years just like an A level programme. It is equivalent to 3 A levels. Year one (Subsidiary) consists of a 90 credit programme. After year one, most students will enrol onto for a second year and complete a full BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma ensuring progression to university level courses, higher apprenticeships or employment. The second year will develop and extend the essential skills for Fashion and Clothing, from sketchbook to catwalk. It includes design, textiles, fashion illustration, garment construction, surface decoration, garment styling, modelling on the stand, business and marketing of fashion and historical and contextual studies. You will also have the chance to meet and work with visiting professional specialists, with visits to museums and exhibitions. You will also have the rewarding opportunity to exhibit your final major project in an end of year show and at the Winns Gallery. The qualification has the same academic value as 3 A levels and will give you the academic points and portfolio of work necessary to support progression to university level courses, higher apprenticeships or employment.
