Have you ever wondered how calligraphy is written? What tools and ink they used and how they decorated their work? This course takes us back to the very beginning by looking at how the letters are formed and how the page is ruled up. Using a broad edged tool, we learn a new style of writing each term and study the way the pen is held and how each letter is made. Looking back at ancient manuscripts, we introduce colour into our writing and use gouache as ink and for decoration. By studying the old we can create new ideas using different layouts, choosing different topics and seasonal projects.
