Access courses are designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to Higher Education. This is ideal for those who want to re-train or re-direct their lives into Nursing, Health Care and Social Care or who want to take a degree in Health related subjects. There is a very high level of academic and personal support throughout the course, which can help if you need to combine study with part-time employment and family commitments. How do you study? You will study a range of 20 units, each unit is worth 3 credits. For successful completion of the access course you will need to pass all 20 units. 5 of the units will focus on study skills such as, research, essay writing and referencing, these are pass or fail units. The remaining 15 will focus on core subjects such as biology, health studies and psychology. These will be graded pass, merit or distinction. If you require a higher grade at GCSE English and / or Maths you will be able to study for this alongside your main Access to HE Diploma. Help and support We also support you through the university application process with tutorials. These are designed to offer guidance and support throughout the learning process. We do however recommend checking the entry requirements for your course at your preferred university
