This A level in Economics provides a comprehensive foundation in both micro and macroeconomics. Learners will develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life, drawing on local, national and global contexts where possible.The specification enables learners to develop an in-depth understanding of the role markets play and the way in which governments seek to manage them. Learners will need to be aware of contemporary developments in macroeconomic policy.Learners will be expected to understand micro and macroeconomic market models, using the models to explore current economic behaviour and make causal connections. Learners will be required to develop a critical approach to economic models and methods of enquiry, recognising the limitations of economic models.Learners will develop analytical and quantitative skills in selecting, interpreting and using appropriate data from a range of sources.The A level in Economics encourages learners to:* Develop an interest and enthusiasm for the subject* Appreciate the contribution of economics to the understanding of the wider economic and social environment* Develop an understanding of a range of concepts and an ability to use those concepts in a variety of different contexts* Use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of Economics and develop an ability to think as an economist* Understand that economic behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and develop analytical and quantitative skills, together with qualities and attitudes which will equip them for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult and working life.

Name: AS/A Level Economics Qualification title: GCE AS Level in Economics Qualification type: Assessment Your progress will be assessed throughout the year with regular homework and testing, together with full mock examinations that will assist with exam technique and skills. You will be required to monitor your own progress against expectations and identify areas for improvement.You will sit 3 end of course exam (each assessing all of the A level content) in summer 2017:Economic Principles (1hr 30 mins, 30% of overall grade, multiple choice and structured questions).Exploring Economic Behaviour (2hrs 30 mins, 30% of overall grade, data response questions).Evaluating Economic Models and Policies (2hrs 30 mins, 40% of overall grade, three essays).You may also take the stand alone AS.
