Machine skills for beginners - introduction to using a sewing machine & basic techniques

This short, three session course will develop both knowledge of your sewing machine's functions, and skills to achieve a more professional finish to your garments or furnishings. It will introduce all the main functions and controls, from correct threading and tension adjustment to a range of stitches, techniques and accessories. Sampling will include hems, edge & top stitching, buttonholes, and invisible zip insertion.

Entry requirements

You will need to bring along your own Basic Sewing Kit to include dressmaking pins, needles, a tape measure and fabric cutting out scissors. Please do not bring your own sewing machine, as we cannot accommodate them for Health & Safety reasons. You will be using a standard Bernina machine, which functions in a very similar way to other makes of machine.
