If you love making clothes or want a career in the exciting fields of Fashion and Textiles join this Level 1 beginner's course. The course enables you to explore a wide range of fashion making techniques and develop further creative/ portfolio skills. It will introduce you to skills in surface pattern, design and fabric manipulation.This is a fashion project based course structured around 1 unit. This unit will cover an introduction to fashion, experimenting with ideas, materials and techniques relevant to textile and fashion design. It enables students to explore the potential of a chosen medium. The students will visit a gallery, research, design, illustrate, and build a fashion portfolio. Students will be able to create a paper dress construction using mannequins & a customized t-shirt with which you will able you to develop skills in surface pattern design, fabric manipulation and assemblage using techniques and processes. You will gain confidence in using the sewing machines. You will be encouraged to experiment with traditional and non-traditional materials and to analyse your design ideas to create items to be sold in the Parkshot Gallery and displayed in exhibitions. You will be taught by a practitioner with professional experience and a career in the subject who brings their industry links to the course. Student projects offer exciting specialist, hybrid and cross-disciplinary teaching practices, helping you to explore your own creative identity within the worlds of fashion, art, craft and design. You will learn the basics of relevant skills, materials, technologies and principles of textile & fashion, which will allow you to undertake and complete projects that have a clear relevance to today's markets and creative/ commercial environments.
