UPDATED 20160426 09:54:43

Year 12 Portfolio Unit This is an enquiry and theme based unit where you will work in a wide range of materials and techniques. This is developed into well-considered personal pieces linked to the experimental work and themed starting points. Throughout the unit you will also critically analyse aspects of textiles. Set Assignment -this unit is designed to give you the opportunity to explore one of five design briefs. Included in this time is an unaided, supervised practical exam which is 10 hours in length during which you will be required to produce a final design based on your chosen theme. A level (Year 13) Component 1: Personal Investigation (60%) The personal investigation gives you the opportunity to show how you can use textiles to communicate and express your ideas. By this stage in the course, you will have developed your own personal style. This is your chance to express it fully and show the extent to which you can use the language of the subject and your understanding of the formal elements, the processes and practices of textiles to communicate you own ideas, thoughts and feelings. Within the personal investigation you will present an illustrated essay of 1000 to 3000 words which identifies your learning journey and links directly to your visual and practical work in this unit. Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (40%) The exam board sets this final unit. You will be able to select from 8 different starting points, with the supervised, unaided element at the end of the course which is 15 hours in length. You will have the opportunity to produce work in greater depth and to use any textile process, technique or material of your choice for the final piece. All components are internally marked and moderated by a visiting external examiner at the end of each year. Each component is marked out of 96 with 4 assessment objectives of equal weighting.
