"A Level Unit 3 - Design & Manufacture (External Examination) Unit 4 - Design & Making Practice (Internal Coursework) Aims of Course: * To develop and sustain innovation, creativity and design and technology capability * To develop critical understanding of the influence of the processes and products of design and technological activity * To apply essential knowledge of understanding and skills of design production processes to a range of technological activity * To recognise the social, moral, spiritual and cultural values inherent in technological activity * To develop as discerning consumers, able to make an informed choice * To develop positive attitudes of co-operation and work collaboratively. Approaches to Learning: Students are encouraged to become autonomous learners and it is essential that, to gain the highest grades, they are prepared to read around the lesson topics. A variety of teaching styles will be used to deliver course content, including written assignments, case studies, research assignments and practical tasks. All students are expected to devote additional study time to complete their Unit 2 ‘design and make’ project. Who is this course aimed at? Pupils interested in creativity, combined with practical problem solving. The course builds upon the design process used in GCSE Design & Technology subjects and some of the work will be computer or graphically orientated. On completion of the course, candidates will be well placed to study one of the Technology based degree level courses such as Architecture, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial or product Design. Such courses are available subject to entry requirements and will need additional qualifications."
