This is a Level 3 qualification taught over two years and is roughly equivalent to 3 A-levels. You will study a range of subjects including Exotic Animal Husbandry, Animal Physiology, Behaviour, Environmental Enrichment, Aquatics and Animal Health. A typical week might include studying the Social Interaction of the college's marmoset monkeys and then maintaining fish tanks whilst exploring the UK's pet fish trade. This course is for people wanting to pursue a career in the Animal Industry, be that as a Zoo Keeper, a scientist designing pet foods, a Vet Nurse or even an Animal Health officer. You will complete units in a range of animal based studies that cover a variety of disciplines including animal health and nutrition, biology, exotics, conservation, behaviour and genetics. The course involves lots of practical work and visits to conservation areas, zoos and farms. You will also do an extended research project. The emphasis is on continuous assessment £ there are no exams. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities.
