Performing Arts Dance or Musical Theatre Level 3 UAL (University of the Arts London)

UPDATED 20160419 15:17:18

What will I study? This course offers you the opportunity to study both Dance and Musical Theatre in the first year, before going on to specialise in either Dance or Musical Theatre in the second year. You will develop skills and dance techniques in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz classes and your musical theatre skills in weekly acting and singing workshops. Projects and performances both in and outside of the College will allow you to focus on the performance demands of either Dance or Musical Theatre, depending on your chosen specialism. There will be opportunities to experience dance styles such as physical theatre, improvisation and commercial dance and create your own pieces, showcasing your work in performances. If you choose to take the Musical Theatre pathway, you will also develop your skills in a pantomime and full length musical in the second year. Although the emphasis is on practical and performance work you will need to complete written assignments and develop your skills as an informed and reflective practitioner through evaluative logbooks and rehearsal diaries. You will learn to evaluate and comment critically on both professional work and your own creative practice, gaining insight into the wider performing arts industry through contextual and industry studies. You will be working on industry projects where some students will engage with external clients and companies, developing your experience in the world of work and performance.
