Volunteering in the Community

This is a first steps course and is therefore most suitable for adults who are thinking about volunteering in school or who are already volunteering in school. The aim is to develop skills and confidence in a voluntary setting with a view to moving into paid work or further training. As part of this course, learners will be expected to attend a work placement for a minimum of 20 hours This will be subject to usual CRB clearance At the end of the course you will be able to understand structures, roles and purpose of organisations, be able to maintain conventions for personal presentation and behaviour in the workplace, be able to comply with safe working practices and carry out tasks using work related skills, be able to plan and give a presentation and use constructive feedback To understand what makes good team work and know how to contribute to team discussions and team activities, and to be able to identify work options, do application forms, a CV and an interview Additional topics might include: Role of the volunteer, Purpose of Organisation, Every Child Matters Confidentiality, Communication skills, National Curriculum awareness, supporting literacy, Numeracy and ICT, Health & Safety, Equality, Access and Inclusion.
