Equipping students for a wide range of careers within the countryside management arena, this qualification provides a solid foundation in ecological and environmental science. You will be encouraged to apply what you've learnt to the issues of today including: practical conservation skills, land management, public access and tourism.The content of the programme is highly practical and you will be encouraged to develop management skills by taking every opportunity to study estate management, conservation and countryside policy. By the end of the programme you will have gained a solid appreciation of the issues surrounding UK wildlife and understand ecological theory. Course Content includes Year 1: Countryside management practices; Principles of ecology; Plant and soil science; Wildlife population management; People and countryside; Work-based learning. Year2: Habitat conservation and management; Field methods in surveying and identification; Geographical information systems; Rural land-use and policy; Work-based learning; Students need to gain 150 hours of industry related experience over the year. Students are encouraged to do this one day a week throughout the academic term so they gain the full variety of work in industry. Successful students can progress onto the Bsc (Hons) Countryside Management programme. Graduates will also be fully prepared for managerial, consultancy and technical positions within the countryside industry.
