Students who are most successful on this course are those who have a genuine interest in the written and spoken word, both in terms of analysing others’ texts and creating their own. You will need at least a ‘C’ grade in GCSE English Language and English Literature. A grade ‘B’ for GCSE English Language is strongly recommended. You will be building on your innate knowledge of the English language. The course requires you to understand and analyse how language effects are achieved and then replicate them in your own original writing. At AS you will be assessed in two 11⁄2 hour exams worth 50% each. The topics will be Language and the Individual and Language Varieties.
