Is this the right course for me? This course is suitable for you if you are new to the sewing machine and want to learn the basics. What will I learn? How to thread up and use a sewing machine. How to cut out fabric and finish seams. How to make a well constructed but simple item of your choice. For example, a small bag, container, cushion or decoration in keeping with the season. How will I learn? You will learn through tutor guidance, hands on practice and making samples, following info sheet and demonstrations, working at own pace. Will I gain a qualification? You will not gain a formal qualification but you may request a Certificate of Attendance and Achievement from your tutor, to be given out at the end of the course. What can I do next? There are longer sewing classes run at Community Learning MK which you can join and learn more about following patterns for dress making and soft furnishing. What do I need to bring to the classes? 1 metre of a medium weight fabric - non stretchy cotton or poly cotton preferably Basic sewing equipment - fabric scissors, sewing needles, tape measure, pins, pattern paper (squared), tailors' chalk, sewing thread, quick un pick.
