English Literature

UPDATED 20161102 10:06:43

This course will enable students to develop their analytical skills and powers of expression through the close study of thought-provoking and inspirational texts. Students will read classic examples of poetry, prose and drama, such as Othello by William Shakespeare, Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and selected poems by Tony Harrison. This course is ideal for anyone who enjoys reading, who is prepared to work at a challenging pace and who has an ability to read beyond the literal text. Students who choose this course need to be effective communicators, orally, so that they can share their ideas in class discussions and in writing, so that they can eloquently demonstrate their understanding.
