Sociology

UPDATED 20160317 10:20:45

Women are more likely to be homemakers than men. Pupils from a Bangladeshi background are more likely to achieve fewer GCSEs than pupils from an Indian background. Girls are less likely to study Science and Mathematics at A-level than boys. People from a working class background are more likely to be portrayed negatively by the media than people from a middle class background. Black people are more likely to be arrested than white people. Does any of this matter? YES! For example, if girls are less likely to study Science and Mathematics, it means they'll be excluded from lots of careers. How can we explain the above statements? Maybe it's just natural. For example, maybe boys are naturally better at Science and Mathematics. Then again, maybe not. If you're interested in understanding why the above statements are still true in modern Britain then A-level Sociology is the course for you! Year 1 Topics, Education and Methods in Context, Families and Households, Research Methods.
