H&S Care - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (Year 2)

This is a practical, work-related course and a wide variety of creative teaching styles are used. Teachers are specialists in their particular unit. There is excellent liaison with the local community and recent guest speakers have including health visitors, social workers, psychologists, Age UK, Children Centre Managers and a Chlamydia Screening Programme Coordinator. The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma is studied in the second year and is equivalent to three A levels. The 90-credit Diploma is studied in the first year as a pre-requisite to this. All courses are highly suitable for students who are interested in careers such as social work, residential care management, housing, the health service, teaching and the probation service. The course combines both academic study and work experience as part of the programme. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours' work training which will be carried out in a variety of care settings eg nurseries, care homes, hostels, hospices, hospitals or special needs centres. Students will study a variety of subjects over the two years including Sociological and Psychological Perspectives, Anatomy and Physiology, Communication Skills and Professional Development.
