This course is split into two sections of study, Ethics and Philosophy. Ethics will involve studying concepts like Utilitarianism, Situation Ethics and the ethical implications of medical procedures such as euthanasia and abortion. Students will look at different systems humans have put into place in order to justify their behaviour. This will also involve studying how different ethical systems have impacted things like, religion, law, war, politics and medicine. Topics include medical ethics, legal ethics and political ethics. The second half of the course is the study of Philosophy. Philosophy explores a number of topics including arguments for and against the existence of God, the validity of miracles and whether or not religion is the result of mental illness. Additionally students will study the conflict that exists between science and religion and whether or not there is a place for religion in the modern world. The AS course will involve two exams at the end of Year 12 and the A2 course will involve two exams at the end of Year 13. This is a great subject with many links to others Humanities subjects like Law, Politics, History, Sociology and Phsycology.
