Jewellery Intermediate

Beginners course- Students will be taught the basic techniques used in making a simple ring or bangle, such as sawing, shaping and soldering. These techniques will then be applied to designing and creating an individual piece of the students choice. Intermediate - Students will be encouraged to design more complex items and learn further skills and techniques, for example setting faceted stones, enamelling and Keum Boo (fusing gold to silver). Beginners will be taught as a whole group during the initial stages of the course. The lessons are practical and will involve various finishing techniques which can then be used to design and create your own pieces. You will develop a basic skill in the craft. You will be provided with underpinning knowledge of the craft process and gain a sound foundation for further study. You will understand how to use materials, tools and equipment effectively and safely. You will be able to design and mark articles using different materials. You will be able to effect simple pieces of jewellery. A College Certificate is awarded on request.Beginners will be taught as a whole group during the initial stages of the course. Intermediate students will work on individualised projects.Students can progress to our Intermediate courses and any accredited courses offered by the college in the next academic year.
